Woodruff County was created November 26, 1862 of territory taken from Jackson and St. Francis counties. It was named in honor of the founder and editor of the Arkansas Gazette, William E. Woodruff. The landscape of Woodruff County is a part of the vast scope of lowland farm country, White River runs along the western border of the whole county with Cache River in the middle and Bayou Deview on the eastern side of the county. There are no hills in the county, the surface is comparatively level.
